In common language, it can also be called the web address, by which any page can be found on the network. A common URL is in the form of http://www.example.com/index.html where HTTP is a protocol, www.example.com hosts' name and index.html shows a file name.

Uniform Resource Locators were defined in RFC 1738 in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, and the URI working group of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)

http (Hyper text transfer protocol)


http is a way to transfer data but it is not as secure as the user can take data directly from the website. The user can know the IP address of the website.

https (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure)


The upgrade version of http is https. The user can not directly take data from the website. In this, the data goes passes through the IP address of that company or through the network of the company. The company from which the website owner has received the SSL certificate, hence the safe.
